Excellent - you're in safe hands with Ian Taylor
Just to check, has he commented on / done any work to sort what may have been behind the problem (stuffed radiator, thermostat, sensors, pump, that sort of thing)? Extra cost is a bummer but it can't be ducked I fear.

Re: oh dear coolant issues.
im pretty certain whatever caused the head to go in the first place is sorted now, previous owner had head gasket done just before i bought it, spoke to garage that did it and they said they skimmed head etc and re-fitted. ian taylor reckons that after skimming it will pass pressure testing, but as soon as some heat gets into the head, the crack opens up?! sounds pretty logical too me...
if only the previous owner would answer his phone, it could put my mind at rest, it'l take a good few miles before i get any confidence in the beast again
