Re: Thermostat pictures
Good post from down under.......So...the message which some peeps have been pushing ....Fit a new Stat is a good one....if the new stat only opens 2mm more than a old one ..does that mean that there is 50% more coolant flow around the system.....that's a lot more.
Add to that the problem of waterpumps losing power co's the impeller degrades (seen one where they had totally gone and heard of one other in the same condition) it's hardly suprising problems are common.......not to mention the "bleeding" problems.......
Most importers do a cam belt change as a matter of course and the cost of this is reflected in the sale price........Perhaps a New rad/Stat/pump (unless there is a simple way to test it) and a drain flush refill checking all hoses.
Even if this cost £500 per Bongo...word would soon get out that certain dealers are doing this and I reckon sales would reflect this in a positive way......The dealer would get less warranty claims....the customer would get a more serviceable Bongo and probably save money down the line.
Simplezzz !!

Re: Thermostat pictures
good visuall test bongo nads, but all this is already known, steve did all these measurememts some time ago,i think steve has done similar tests with a genuine stat, which i notice both yours are not,so my point i suppose is how accurate are your findings.
i go back to what i said earlier, and what you have found in your crude tests,if the stat is lazy/faulty/full of %hit, the top end temps cannot be controled.as kirsty points out this is usually when prolnged heavy load is placed on the system,on a marginal system things soon get out of hand.

How grandiose is that? Just because a few of the Divine "already knew" this. does not mean that it is universally already known, and that it is therefore off limits for further contributions. The fact that it is not universally already known, is indicated by the more robust of the posts in this thread.Northern Bongolow wrote: ... but all this is already known ...
Besides, if we are to be restricted from re-visiting what is "already known", then we would still be living on a flat Earth, the Sun would still be rotating oround us, and Darwin would never have published.
You repost smacks of elitism. Your post suggests a compulsion to find fault. Any fault will do. I'm sorry I'm not one of your elite. You are not genuine in the openness of your forum.
"Crude test" indeed. You rude person.

1 - Never EVER refer to me as 'one of the Divine' - I started from scratch on this subject - and still learning.
2. is not universally already known? If you cared to read the posts suggested, then you WILL see that all the info is there for all to see.
3. off limits for further contributions? No one has EVER suggested this except you that is.
4. You repost smacks of elitism? If you knew Ady, you would very quickly realise that this is another of your VERY bad judgement calls.
5. not one of your elite? This site doesn't do elitism. Does have a few self opinionated folk though.
6. Crude test" indeed. You rude person? It IS crude - live with it- you are not even testing the stat in its true mechanically restricted environment for G**s sake.
All we are trying to do is to establish PRECISELY how the system works based on FACTS, not guesswork. I am sure you can make massive (positive) contributions to this subject but please don't start slagging folk off unfairly. Just gets folks back up.
Just noticed - bongo nads chucked the bottle out of the pram and deleted some of his stuff

Re: Thermostat pictures
Ady ...did you ever work out why Bongo Baz's temp gauge went high after bleeding ???? seems to have settled down now as he had a good trip home and his readings are now spot on.

Re: Thermostat pictures
hi haydn,
i think it was the temp sensor wire that was not initially connecting, when the wire was later extended with your mod all was fine.if the wire is faulty the gauge reads full/hot or anything inbetween.think that is what was was witnessed.
have you any thoughts.

Re: Thermostat pictures
Sounds resonable to me......
Just deliberatly created a poor connection on mine and the gauge did "twitch".
Nice to get to the bottom of it.

Didn't the fans kick in as well though?
Shame mr Nads deleted all his input, would have been interested to read what he had to say.

Re: Thermostat pictures
i could be remembering it wrongly but i dont thing the fans came on kirsty.
if they did does that establish the link between temp readings and the ecu control?
