Oil for Bongo

As the oil in my diesel bongo needs changing every 6 months has anyone thought of using super universal tractor oil? Its the right grade 10w/30 and has API CF rating and is available from ebay for about £60 for 25 litres inc delivery (£2.50 per litre).Thats enough for 4 oil changes or 2 years

I can't find any super universal tractor oil on Ebay that cheap - cheapest seems to be £66.25.
I believe the proper grade is 5w/30 and you can get semi-synthetic for less at your local motor accessory shop.

my dad tried tractor oil, same grade, he put his into a nissan cherry yrs ago, the car packed up shortly after.. dont know if it was related or not. ive always used 5 30 in mine, after using 10 40 once i noticed a dramatic increase in fuel costs so used it as a flush and put the correct grade in. my dads still got 50 gallons of 10 30 tractor oil but im not gonna be using it.

Ere 'ang on I hought the correct grade was 10w/30 not 5w/30?????

5w 30 for ours to, it also stops most of that egr gunk.

If any of you have Costco membership they do 10-40 Diesel Oil at less than £2 a litre. ALso a range of other oils at reasonable rates.

I am going to try 5-40 to see if it makes a difference to economy however it is a lot more expensive to so fuel savings will need to be significant.

All the veggie user sites suggest changing engine oil more often due to the fact that mineral oil and veggie oil when mixed cause gloopy polymers to form. I dont know if that applies to synthetic oils though.

It won't because you will still be using 40 grade oil. You may well notice a difference if you change to one ending in 30
