Cylinder head help please
I am trying to prepare myself in case i need to have a new cylinder head for our van after the water pipes have been fitted and have found one that was fitted to a r reg ford feida for 2 weeks(15miles)2.5 td, the lady is not sure if it will fit mine (m reg bongo 2.5td) I dont want to buy it if it will not fit.280 quid. Also she has a brand new cam belt kit and water pump from the said engine for 80 quid the pair. I just wondered if any of you know wether they will fit mine or how i can find out for sure.I am really hoping i wont need the cylinder head needs doing but i reckon it may be a good idea to change the water pump and cam belt before our trip to wales.
Thanks
Jayne

Re: Cylinder head help please
They should fit fine...but...why have them fitted for only 2 weeks.....perhaps they were fitted wrong and it overheated again ??
If it's a ligit sale then as long as it is not a cheap china one you have a bargin

Re: Cylinder head help please
Thanks for your reply Hayden.........always appreciated
I dont know the full details she is selling on ebay but she ran the engine with this cylinder head and ended up buying a whole new engine. I am a bit dubious as to why she ran it with this cylinder head and if there was damage to the bottom half of engine did it do anything to the head????? I think i might pump her for more info on that. Thanks
Update
She said her cylinder block cracked and it was cheaper to buy new engine rather than buy the block. Not sure if it would have done damage to the head?????? I really hope i dont have to buy it but with regards to water pump and cambelt do you think that would be worth doing along with the pipes that are being fitted next week???

If you have never had a cam belt fitted then that is a good thing to replace and may as well do the Pump whilst in that area.
If the block is cracked then the head "should" be fine and if it is a £500 one then a bargin for someone.

Ok thanks for your imput Hayden. She paid 575 for the head so at 280 i think its a good price. Will let you know what happens

Does she mean that she had a new head fitted to the (engine) block. She said her cylinder block cracked and it was cheaper to buy new engine rather than buy the block. Not sure if it would have done damage to the head??????
But it didn't run right for 15 miles.
So she got another complete engine fitted.
If so, ask her if she can guarantee that this cylinder head is fine.
If she has a good selling history on EBay, with lots of 'positive' feedback and can guarantee the head, then it might be OK to buy.

A fully built up head with all the gaskets, bolts, etc with a years guarantee from the club shop is £640, IMO it's a job you don't want to be taking risks with, but you've got to weigh up the risks, price up what else you'll have to source & see if it still seems such a good deal to you, I know which way I'd go.
You can't polish a turd - but you can roll it in glitter.

Re: Cylinder head help please
Thanks Doone and Kirsty. I really am not sure which way to go tbh. It all depends on the pipes being fitted next week. If the pressure test says that the head is ok then i will just replace water pump and caqm belt as that has not been done since we brought it although the guy we brought from said that it looked new!!!!! Better to be safe than sorry i think.
Anyhow i will let you all know how it goes on the 16th.................if all is well thats a bonus if it aint then its back to selling on ebay to fund a head and our wales trip is put on hold!!!!
