How Long To Do A Radiator Flush and Coolant Change ?

Post by Bluespanner » Mon Jul 05, 2010 10:27 am

Hi, can anyone tell me what a reasonable amount of time is for a garage to do a radiator flush and coolant change on a 96 2.5TD 2WD. Many thanks Rob

Thanks David, my garage has sent me a bill for nearly £90. They have a number of bongo's they work on a regular basis and I did ask them if they were fully keyed up on bongo coolant changes and they said they'd done plenty. May have to enquire on this one.

Check my post out Blue Spanner, it took me over three weeks, lol but I am sure I could do a flush and complete coolant bleed withing three hours, just using a bleeder hose, plus a mate.
They would have the proper gear, so you pay for their expertise plus the use of their equipment.
Out garages charge out about NZ $70.00 per hour plus gst. In the bigger towns maybe more.

£90 dosn't sound to bad to me if it included the cost of the 5/6 liters of antifreeze required.
A full flush through and bleeding..
I would guess at least 2 hours.
£25 for coolant.....£32.50 per hour for the time.

Thanks everybody, It seemed a long time and a bit pricey at first but looking at whats involved I think it's an acceptable price and took just over 2 hours.

If it takes less than that, it ain't been done right, it takes a lot to flush a bongo's cooling system clean.
