Re-wiring cig lighter sockets

Post by HangTen » Mon Jul 05, 2010 11:19 pm

I've seen several posts saying the wiring to the cig-lighter sockets (especially the rear one) isn't up to much and recommending replacing it with heavier gauge stuff, but ..... how easy is it to do? Where does the wiring run and what trim do you need to remove for access to it ...... or is it possible to use the existing wire as a 'pull-through' for the new stuff?

lot depends on you and how you want to do it. the rear near side panel just pulls off giving access to the back of the socket etc, routing the cable to the front of the vehicle is an indivdual thing, you can pick up power from numerous points at the front, or install a fused line directly to the battery.

Prettty sure the existing wiring goes up & over & then down the passenger side pillar, it's all bundled into the loom, so you can't pull it through on the existing one :(
You can't polish a turd - but you can roll it in glitter.

OK, thanks .... sounds like the best way would be to leave the existing wiring in situ, disconnect and just install new taking the most convenient route.
