(OT) but still techie - metal tubing ?
I'm looking for a short, 5cm length, of metal tubing almost any metal will do (Alu, Brass, steel), but needs to be 18mm OD and 16mm ID that's a 1mm wall thickness, anybody have anything or know of a source ?

I'll have a look............
How exact must that measurement be? Could you get thicker walled tube reamed out?

Yes I found that a few minutes after putting the post up as well! No idea why it didn't come up on earlier searches, I may go for that if I can't find anything cheaper, but many thanks for hunting as well!

Got some steel tube....18.25 od with a wall of 1.25 ??? it's a old fold up camping chair...
Re: (OT) but still techie - metal tubing ?
Pretty close, OD can't be any bigger than 18mm that is already an interference fit, the 16mm ID could be a little smaller 15.8mm perhaps, but it too ideally needs to be an interference fit around a 16mm dia carbon fibre "rounded" hexagonal tube, there will be a little ability to compress it, but trying to ream out a 5cm length is going to leave it conical on the inside which will defeat the object a bit as it needs to be stable inside the added tube which will be used to support the carbon fibre rod in a vertical position with a load at the top.scanner wrote:How exact must that measurement be? Its actually a Monopod to be mounted inside a small table top tripod, so the two dimensions are pretty much fixed
Many thanks in advance!

Thanks Haydn I think the OD is going to be a trifle to large, as the 18mm is already an interference fit, infact just measured the original tube and it has a stop at the end which is 18.5mm dia and that doesn't allow any chance of the support getting thru the mounting hole at all.haydn callow wrote:Got some steel tube....18.25 od with a wall of 1.25 ??? it's a old fold up camping chair...
Many thanks for looking.

Thanks Helen, but I think that's going to be a bit on thin side. The problem is I have two pre-set dimensions and it needs to be a good solid mount, experimented with some thin white plastic card last night and it will work fine for a few hours use but I think it might come down to the Ebay stainless steel to get the required rigidity. This is what its required for;

At all the classic bike shows I've been to there's usually a metal stockist there. Worth a go if there's something on in your area?

Geoff stability wise that looks
Or is it supposed to sway with vibration.

Re: (OT) but still techie - metal tubing ?
Yes its not the ideal situation (especially with my weight on floorboards nearby) I would prefer to use my tripod, but in NT properties your not allowed use of a tripod as it would restrict the routes thru rooms.
So its Monopod for stability, on its own I can use exposure times as long as 1/50 or 20ms anything longer than that and movement creeps in (specially when I have to take 10 shots or more for a Spherical), the problem is that with the very subdued lighting in lots of the rooms you have to then bring the ISO up 1600-3200 and of course that then brings noise problems
So next best thing is Monopod with feet (I think I can get away with that
the arrangement shown allowed me to get exposures as long as 3 seconds (in fact a bracketed sequence of 5 exposures) which with an ISO of 800 should solve most problems.
But enough photo talk, otherwise I'll really be way off topic, I just felt I stood a better chance of someone knowing a source of suitable material in here rather than "wanted"
