Re: Celery Smell?
I'm more interested in how you have managed to burn celery at some time in your life, than what's causing the smell in your Bongo. However, I hope you find the cause soon and it's easily sorted.

Have no idea what burnt celery smells like either
but could it be the ac evap matrix clogged with crud, & causing nasty pongs? or is it a smell more like something's overheating? maybe the motor or fan speed resistor?
This FAQ should help point you at things to check - http://www.igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/forum/ ... 43&t=28727

Re: Celery Smell?
Hi
Try a disinfectant spray to eliminate the smell...put heater on full, take the black scoop off under the bonnet, and spray into the heating system.
If it is not that, after the system has settled down for a day or so, then it's most likely electrics, and you'll have to strip the heater system down a bit more...if that's the case, then ask again in a couple of days, and there's more advice, fact sheets, etc.
Alternatively, you could place a warm , wilted salad on the dashboard, with a sprinkling of parmesan, and it will accompany the celery nicely
Cheers
Helen

In the beginning there was nothing , then God said "Let there be Light".....There was still nothing , but ,by crikey, you could see it better.

Re: Celery Smell?
The FAQ has all the necessary links, check the fan spins freely by taking the scoop off & turning it by hand. does it work on all speeds? if not check the fan speed resisistor/control pack (have you got digital climate control or manual controls?) if all that's ok, strip the ducting to get at the evap matirx, that's usually got a load of crud blocking it up, get that cleaned out carefully & disinfected.Dr.Jekyll wrote:Smells like electrics getting hot but not enough to melt/burn to me.... had this in the VW T2.missfixit70 wrote:Have no idea what burnt celery smells like eitherbut could it be the ac evap matrix clogged with crud, & causing nasty pongs? or is it a smell more like something's overheating? maybe the motor or fan speed resistor?

Smashing answers thanks folks
The smell is less obvious now we have done a few miles but still there occasionally. The Air Con is definitely top of the suspect pile having started to make a howling noise today - several other defects have become apparent since we started using the vehicle - most notably several lamps not working (and it just having passed an MOT too) but most worryingly the Automatic shift hold mode switch is dead.

If its a recent purchase and still have a warranty, a swift trip back to the dealer is a mustMuddy Fox wrote:Smashing answers thanks folksThe smell is less obvious now we have done a few miles but still there occasionally. The burnt celery smell was the description her indoors came up with - to me it's more like the smell of golden granulated sugar - sort of a musty smell.
