automatic stalling problem

Hi all, I'm having a bit of a problem thats getting worse with my bongo. when the van is cold (overnight / several hours ) if i engauge the drive forward or reverse, when applying slightly to much trottle the bongo stalls quite violently. I do not bellieve this is engine related, more transmission. Although the problem used to be minimal, i.e after one or two stalls the problem would disappear, this morning the van would stall instantly!! After spending an hour with it this morning just checking for maybe something obvious, with what seemed like endless 'trys' getting it to move, the problem went and now all is fine again......till tomorrow morning! so i guess once its warmed right up it'll be ok. could this be the tourqe converter? any advice much appreciated. Guessing it could be a trip to Dunnings

Probably totally off beam :oops: but is your ATF fluid level OK?

As Steve said, no expert, but I'd check your level & the condition of the fluid (making sure you check it warmed up & running and go through all the gears first) may be worth a fluid change & filter clean anyway - easy enough to do - http://www.igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/forum/ ... =3&t=30096 - you can borrow my pela pump if you need.
Wouldn't hurt to see what Dunnings reckon.

Why are you applying the throttle before engaging gear?

sorry bad grammer, should the comma be a semi-colon?? [-X I wasnt implying this is what i was doing......i simply meant when i apply the throttle after engauging a gear be it forward or reverse to move the vehicle it stalls. (gosh - and i just passed level 2 literacy!!

fluid level fine and clean, along with filters.

when everything is warm the bongo is just fine through all gears, though the problem is when cold as i said, this being the problem as i took half hour this morning before i could get it off the drive.

Sounds like an engine problem.
Engine is running rough and when you apply the throttle, the engine is stalling.
When engine is warm, there is no problems.
The normal problems fuel filter or heater system.
When it was happening to me, I just slipped the clutch and kept on going.
You cannot do this.
New filter cured the problem.
Probably heater plugs for you.
Start engine and let it fully heat up and then engage gear.
Takes of nicely and without problems, this is the problem.

Wonder if it's the cold start fast idle vacuum solenoid not working, revs too low when it's cold? What are the revs doing? Is the extra load of the ac bringing the revs down if the fast idle solenoid isn't working?

Also worth considering the front seal on the injector pump, this can cause similar problems on start up if faulty. :wink:

hi, thanks all for input.

rev's at tick over just fine no drop with ac or any other power consumable.

'quite violently', i was trying to describe the idea that the engine isnt struggling at all, though i will try to illiminate any possibilty of fuel / engine trouble.
