Permanently remove leisure battery

I have a leisure battery fitted but I never use it and suspect its dead. Rather than cart it around all over the place I would sooner take it out. Can I just take it out and tape up the leads or do I need to remove all the associated cabling as well.

Thats OK to do that , but I would rather check it out if the charging side of it is working why not get a cheapish new battery and replace it, it may come in usefull one day. is it a definate LB or a winter battery

I assumed it was a leisure battery - and what does a winter battery give you and how can you tell the difference ? It does have the cold start option fitted.

If you've got the switch with a picture of an engine on it, it's probably a second starter battery - there will also be a heavy duty cable between the positive terminal, which goes into the same loom as the positive lead from the left hand battery. Why do you think it's dead?

If it is a leisure battery, and you remove it then you will best to revert the items that are connected to it back to the starter battery, otherwise you may get some strange effects depending on what has been swung over to it.

I have the switch with an engine on it (cold start) but the +ve cable does not look big enough to take engine starting current. Also the cabling doesn't look original. why do I think it is dead - its been there for 6 years and doesn't appear to do anything.

Truth is I'm fitting (eventually) a low coolant alarm and have to remove it to fit the sensor. If the battery isn't doing anything seems little point in putting it back. Its an unconverted van. I think it powers the rear socket and thats all. I have never needed the rear socket for anything.

Some people changed the wiring of the winter battery set up to a LB set up, hence thats probably why the wiring doos`nt look like its the original, the battery can easily be tested at your local garage and he can test the charging as well most local garages will do this for free so you wont loose ought

If the positive cable connects the two batteries directly then it is a booster for the main battery, it will lengthen the life of the main battery.

If you remove it remove the cable back to the main battery.
