Try a multimeter on the LB terminals whilst charging and see what voltage you get then do the same with the power off and then you will no either way what or not is happening. :)

To charge a leisure battery fully with a battery charger will take at least 24 hr depending on it's state of charge. They can take up to 3 days..... I think the PMS unit will cut off, to prevent you over charging the battery & causing damage. If this last statement is wrong I'm sure some one will correct me.
As dandemann says pop a multi-meter across the terminals with the charger on and take a reading. Switch the charger off & leave for about an hour then measure again. If the second voltage readings are lower, the battery will take a bit more charge, so switch the charger back on again. You should get a full row of green led's on the PMS panel when the battery is fully charged.

As the battery was very flat by the sound of it, I would give it as long as possible at least 24 hours, no problem with longer if you can manage it. You won't overcharge it given the normal types of charger used, you can leave it on for ever.
Next thing is to sort out why it isn't being charged from the alternator.

Great. Thanks..... it seems I may have been a tad out with my 15 minute estimate then! Given that it can take at least 24hrs I'd be pretty certain it's charging. Next challenge to find out if a relay has actually been fitted.... any telling signs that would be easy enough to spot for the untrained observer?

Thanks so much to everybody for their help and comments so far...

The basic arrangement for a Split Charge relay is, a cable fused (normally 30+ Amps) at the starter battery going to a small box, the relay, from this box is similar lead running to the leisure battery again fused, 30+Amp's or so, the fuses should be mounted close to the batteries themselves. The relay box will also have at least an earth connection and in some cases a lead going to either the ignition circuit or alternator. There will of course be other cable(s) going to the leisure battery to connect it to the circuits that you want powered when the engine isn't running again such cables should have a fuse close to the battery in each case.

Right. Thanks. In which case I think we have one by the looks of things as there are relatively new looking 30 amp fuses (the conversion was brand new) attached to cables next to the car battery and the leisure battery (two next to the leisure battery).

Thanks very much to everyone for your help. May not be able to check e-mail for a while as in the middle of a house move before heading off to Europe in the Bongo in a few weeks so please don't be offended if I don't reply for a while if there are any more posts.

Hi all,

Once again thanks to everyone for their comments. We just thought we'd let you know in case anyone is interested that the problem has now been resolved! As it happened we did have a relay but it looked like whoever fitted it did a bit of a bodge job and it was no longer connected to the car battery (if it ever was in the first place!)....

All the best,

Excellent news, there seems to be quite a few less than ideal ways of fitting the relays, I know ours when we first got it wasn't particular clever, it worked adequately at an electrical level, but mounting, fusing and cable terminations weren't really robust enough for life under a bonnet! All replaced now!

If your trying to get intouch with

your converter? and getting no answer

keep trying and Don't let the "mania" get to you

keep trying and get the van back to them.

Don't let them get away with it as the 1 month warrenty is just that 30 day's.

David.

I have the instructions to fit and wire it in PM me with your e'mail and I'll pass them on.

As mine was wired differently to the instructions.

David.
