Rear most heater blowers not blowing

Post by Alison01326 » Tue Jul 27, 2010 2:35 pm

I've had a look for an answer on this, and don't think it's covered although I have to confess I really don't understand half of what is written on the subject of heating and air con (sorry, everyone who has contributed on the matter  ).

I have just had my air conditioning re gassed and all seems well. Seymour has left a little puddle on the road, and the air con is roaring more than it used to but I don't think these are problems. It's blowing harder too - all the sweetie wrappers on the floor in front of Isaac's seat blew out when I opened the door.

HOWEVER, back on track. The rear most blowers (ie the ones by the back door) are not blowing. They may not have been blowing for a while. I am rarely back there, and even if I am sitting at the back they are behind me (and at the moment, one is covered up by the kitchen). I suspect this is completely unrelated to having the air con done, and I only noticed it because i have been putting my hands in front of all the vents.

What could be wrong, how can I fix it, and will anything else in the system be damaged if I ignore the problem for a while?

Answers as if you were addressing a four year old please (but no need to type slowly or in capitals :? )

Didn't even know they were heater vents  Mine don't seem to blow either :?

Hellooo Aalison....how are you....thats a pretty pink top...did mummy buy it for you....my havn't you grown..... Have you been at nursery today :?:

Apologies couldn't resist.... I may be wrong , but I don't think the aircon / heaters are ducted to the rear vents.... could they simply be to ventilate behind the rear panels? I may be wrong here, if so I stand correcetd, but I dont think ours deliver any warm or cold air either. Could it be an air intake rather than extract? The fans need a supply of air to blow any out. Sorry if this reply confuses more than helps

all the best

David.

Thanks, John. To be honest, I wondered before posting whether it was some hazy imagination thing that they ever blew. Maybe I have always just kept my frozen food shopping away from them in the winter because I suspected they blew. Funny form of decoration, though. I wonder what the grilles are for if not for blowing warm and cold?

I suppose I had better wait for some more replies. Maybe do a survey! I'll probably find that only 10% of Bongos have even got them.

Hi Alison, I think the vents you are talking about are actually extraction vents, the theory is that the 'used' air from the heaters will have to get out of the Bongo to allow more fresh air in.(Otherwise the Bongo might inflate!)

The extraction vents are normally near the rear lights, as the rear of the car is where the lowest pressure is once the vehicle is moving, so is the most effective place to site them.

Quite often there are fabric flaps attached to the body to act as one way valves, I once had these freeze and this caused really bad misting until I managed to thaw them.

No need to worry!

No ducting to the back doors, just the overhead ones pointing back behind the driver & passy seat & the ones exiting the side panel behind the drivers seat

David, thank you for your simple reply. I could throw a tantrum and say my top isn't pink but I'm quite a mature four year old and I don't have tantrums any more :). Wish I had been at nursery today - much more fun making a mess for other people to clear up instead of being at home clearing up other peoples' mess!!

Anyway, those vents. It certainly makes sense that the air has to come from somewhere and likewise, as Munroman suggests, go somewhere (although as I usually have a window open the thought had never crossed my mind).

I wonder why I thought that they ever blew? I shall stop worrying about it now, and await further responses which will probably all be the same and serve to make me look a bit silly (but nevertheless useful to someone else who may have wanted to ask the same question but been afraid of looking silly  )

It's getting busy now, every time I hit submit, there's another reply. Thanks Kirsty. As you've ripped your rear heating out what is in there, then? Absolutely nothing?

Nothing there IIRC, certainly nowt to do with the heating or ac, have a look at the diagrams in the FAQ - http://www.igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/forum/ ... 43&t=28727

It vents out from the boot through a kind of rectangular duct downwards (one way in a sense.. No water should climb up!) to behind the rear bumper, just below where it joins the body panel on the wheel arch... From memory..? I've had the rear bumper off!

Just behind the bumper bit that wraps round to the wheel arch..? Behind it is an angled spacer & a dirty white i think plastic vent in the panel just below where the bumper top edge meets the ridge & fastens to the eyelet with that bolt & plastic thing?? :D I kid you not!!
