Difficult Banjo Filter

Post by danboy99 » Tue Jul 27, 2010 6:46 pm

Hi all, I tried to get mine off for a clean recently but the Allen Bolt thing was so stiff I couldn't undo it. Because it's in an awkward place I could get anything very long on it to provide much leverage either.

Anyone else found this and anyone got any tips please?

I can't get mine off either, just take off the banjo bolt & you can still fish the filter out carefully, I use one of those screwdrivers with a magnetic telescopic pick up jobby in the shaft, just watch you don't dislodge/lose any of the washers.
You can't polish a turd - but you can roll it in glitter.

It's a swine that wee allen bolt.

Spent about half an hour getting that out on a friend's Bongo, with the seat bearing down on me (mid conversion) - only to find that there was no filter in there!!

Didn't even know there was an Allen bolt  I just remove the main banjo bolt and dig it out with a cotton bud or, if you're stuck at the Bash, use Kirsty's magnetic screwdriver

There's a support bracket on the pipe that the banjo bolt is holding down. It should have an allen bolt holding it on.

If it's not there, I'd not worry. Overkill IMO really.

Elementary mistake there Jamie, Sonic screwdrivers are no good for getting the banjo filter out & if you not careful the time flux will knock out the injection pump timing, Excallent for cleaning the filter though once it's out, as long as it's well away from the bongo when you do it

Thanks all. It's the support bracket (and it's Allen bolt) that's the problem. Kisrty, are you saying you can still get the filter out without moving the bracket at all? It didn't look like that to me...

You can indeed. There's a steel spacer between the banjo and the pump, and a total of 3 copper washers to loose.

You can remove the main bolt, and extract the filter through the middle - use a cotton bud.

That's exactly what Franco & myself were saying, it is most definitely possible as I described.
