Yup, sounds like the seam has split, common issue, some have got away with crimping the lugs back over. It will spray as it's a pressurised coolant system, you'll probably find it's airlocked which is why the level hasn't dropped.

That seems the most likely explanation at this point. I'll give it a wee top up before heading down to the garage in gloucester. At least this has happened the week before holiday and not during! Thanks for your help everyone.

If it's airlocked, you could be asking for trouble, wouldn't chance it myself, I'd get the garage to take that responsibility.

check your rad cap this may be leaking under pressure,and make sure it hasnt got an overflow pipe at this point.if it has it must be blancked off.
that is the rad cap not the expansion cap/tank.

i would,nt even think about driving it , you,ve got air in the system, even if the coolent level looks ok, if you drive it, you will crack the cylinder head. long before theres even the slightest movement of the temp gauge !!!!
i know this from bitter experience.

as its still under warrenty, get them to fetch it with a low loader, bongos cannot be towed unless you remove both prop shafts

DO NOT DRIVE IT, unless they are willing to accept the risk

Had to do that once years ago with a Morris Minor van. In fact, three of us (all males) took it in turn.

No spare water. No can. Got us out of trouble.

Just tried to call the garage where I bought it and have the warranty, they have gone bust, thus no warranty protection. . The level of the expansion tank has droppped over night, so hopefully this means no airlock. Looks like I'll be taking the hit and paying for it all myself, in which case I don't need to drive the 40 miles down to Gloucester. Can anyone recommend any Bongo friendly garages near Brize Norton?!!

Warranty may still be valid if it was one they purchased and not just a dealer warranty. Do you have any documentation about it?

As you now know that you have a coolant leak, it would be most sensible to get your Bongo recovered to a garage. This is to avoid the risk of overheating and causing damage to the head. Speaking from experience, if the leak gets worse and it dumps a lot of coolant quickly, it can overheat faster than I can type.
If you don't have 'recovery' cover, once you've decided where to go, give the garage a call, they may have a recovery vehicle, or know someone who can recover it for you.
