Has anyone any idea's on this problem?
I was getting a screeching noise/whistle when driving. I have changed the belts, blanked the EGR and I still get the noise. Tones change when the throttle is in different positions.
also on a different question our pan under the bongo was taken off and the garage says it's not required but what do others think?

Re: screeching noise
Screeching is probably the exhaust manifold stud no 1 is the favourite, on the left as you look under the passy seat, above & to the right of the alternator, you should be able to see sooty marks & notice a hole on the manifold where the stud should be, loads on the forum about it if you do a search, http://www.lushprojects.com/bongopartsm ... mgno=.html
Personally I think the bottom tray should stay on, it was put ther for a reason - or several
1- protect the engine etc from road debris/damage
2- engine noise reduction (should have a matting on it)
3- channelling air over the engine/anciiliaries
But it's up to you, it's your bongo, not the garages

You can't polish a turd - but you can roll it in glitter.

Re: screeching noise
Welcome in.
Be prepared for a variety of options, I'll kick off with my 5 pence worth.
Alternator Bearings.
Watch out for Charge & Sediment lights coming on in the near future. . . . . .
Failing that it could be No 1 exhaust stud on its way out. If it sounds like an angry canary under the passenger seat, thats the problem.
Oh & keep that tray underneath, it helps cooling & keeps the noise down too.
NEXT!!! . . . . .

Edit: Pipped by that Kirsty person again . . . .

Re: screeching noise
Ive had the number one stud replaced a couple of weeks ago (skimmed exhaust manifold fitted) it was noticed by waycar who said it was missing whilst we were checking the hoses.
The garage said it had been missing for a while ,but i never heard any whistling or any noises from the stud being broken.
