Whitesands, nr St Davids 22 - 24 October

Post by Jillygumbo » Fri Aug 06, 2010 9:17 am

Well, I've booked 3 nights at Lleithyr Farm Holiday Park with the offer from The Sun. £1 per night (£5 with leccy), dog free and allowed on the beach from 1 October.

Anyone want to join me? Wonder how warm the sea is then??

Also hoping to book Newcourt Campsite in Felindre, Brecon for the previous 3 nights: 19-21 October. That's about halfway for me and I've wanted to visit Brecon for ages. Got the maps and everything! Got to ring back on Monday when the guy who's dealing with it is back!! That'll be using Mirror tokens.

Another option, although not exactly halfway is Dolbryn at Newcastle Emlyn but I'm gonna see if Newcourt is OK first. Not available Fridays and Saturdays. That's the Mirror again. Left a message for them to call me back.

Also planning a night or two at Postern Hill, Savernake (Sun) 10 September or 1 October (or both!) as it's only down the road. They're usually expensive so this is a plus! Haven't contacted them yet.

Now looking at 3 night prior to that at Newcourt Camp Site and that'll be 9 days!! Whoo hoo! A good ole round trip!

Would love to join you... we stayed there earlier in the year and had a great time (make sure you get up early for the fresh croissants and pain au chocolat)!

But unfortuantely, despite having been collecting the vouchers, it now doesn't look like we'll be able to get away because of shift patterns and rehearsals :-(

Enjoy though!

That's a shame. Perhaps you can change your timescales? Doubt if I'll be up early enought for the food though - you never know though. Is that on the campsite or at the beach shop area?

The campsite itself has a well-stocked shop and bakery... although they didn't have hacksaw when we needed one! Lol!

If they have still have any spaces left next week I might join you for Newcastle Emlyn and St Davids.

I have swum off Sandbanks in October before and of course the hardy swim on New Years Day everywhere. =D> =D>

I have the Sun and Mirror tokens. I just need to wait to see if these dates are OK. I might see you at Cropredy, if not I am booked for Looe.

To cut the pole kit for the awning, naturally...! Lesson for next time - put second hand awning up and cut replacement poles to size BEFORE you go away!

Cool! - to all the above. I'll look out for you this weekend at Cropredy but otherwise I'll see you at Looe.

Let me know whether you manage to book Newcastle Emlyn and Whitesands.

Jillygumbo,
Glad to see another bongo'r coming to my part of the world!I lived in St Davids and surrounding areas for quite a few years before moving to south Pembrokeshire and still have connections there :D have you been to Pembrokeshire before? You'll love it,just be careful you dont get trapped in the Pembrokeshire bubble like i did!(by that i mean you cant leave!)
Im a seasoned surfer so to me water temp is fine in October and the way things are going it could well be warmer than it is at the moment! The main thing that affects how cold you will get is the wind chill factor!
A decent 5mm wetsuit and you will have no problems.
There are many beautiful,un-spoilt beaches that are not as well known as Whitesands and some great pubs too :D let me know if you would like a few pointers.
Have as great time and i may even see you about.

Hi Chris. I first visited the area at the beginning of May this year. Always wanted to see that part of the world and took advantage of the first Daily Mirror offer. Stayed at Anfodd Holidays at Blaunwaen for 5 nights and toured around Preseli, St Davids, Whitesands, Newgale, Fresh West and the Tenby area. Liked Whitesands but no dogs on beach so didn't stick around, just noseyed in the car park. Loved Fresh West! Love the friendliness of the area although I find the campsites a little pricey compared with everywhere else.
I'm hoping to get into the sea in October, and I don't have a 5mm suit, just a 3mm but I won't be staying in for long anyway because I can't leave the dog for long. I'll defo be bringing my wooden bodyboard, perhaps my surfboard too, although not sure if there's much point because of the dog! Find surfing on my own not as much fun anyway! I usually surf at Woolacombe or Watergate/Newquay in the summer months, when my son accompanies me (not so often nowadays  ).
Hope to see you over that weekend - come and say hello. And yes, please, pointers to good beaches and pubs. I'll be walking a fair bit too. Gosh I'm going to be busy! My flag will be flying (if not too windy) - green tintop and brown and cream quechua full base tent. :)

Am now also booked at Newcourt Camp Site Saturday 16 - Monday 18 October. £3.50 a night including EHU.

So to recap - thats 3 nights at Brecon (Newcourt), 3 nights at Newcastle Emlyn (Dolbryn) and 3 nights at Whitesands (Lleithyr Farm). If I have EHU at all 3 the total cost of the camping will be ... wait for it ... £39.00 for 9 nights. Plenty of walking and surfing I hope! Now I gotta start saving for the diesel!!! At least I avoid paying the motorway toll  cos they only make you pay to enter Wales, not leave it! Cos I'm starting out at Brecon, I can avoid the bridge :D
