TM2 temp

Now down in the vercour area of france but still a little worried about coolant temps. Before setting off installed TM2 (sorry kirsty it was this not masson alarm as i said ) Set alarm for 101. Temp on 12 now cold engine when left overnight. Rose to steady 96/98 on moterways driving down here but rose to 101 setting alarm of on the mountain roads up to where we are camping. Vans own temp guage not moved from usual position. We have very heavy load on van lots about 50 0r 60 stone in weight.
Are these temps normal from other peoples temps with TM2 or may we have prob air lock or something.

We have sensor fitted on 2nd bolt back on drivers side

Ours tends to sit about the low 90's when being driven about on the roads.
It does rise to the mid 90's on hills but always falls back again fairly quickly once over the top.
Once whilst sat in stationary traffic for ages on the M5/M6 on a hot sunny day, it got to 98 but at that point I turned on the air conditioning & the temp. then fell again.

I would think that if you haven't lost any coolant, it could be due to heavy loads, steep gradients & possibly hot air temperatures.( don't know what your local weather is like).

As I said above, switching on the air conditioning activates the radiator cooling fan to spin so pulling air through the radiator, this will help just in case you have a faulty fan sensor switch which would stop the radiator cooling fan coming on automatically when the engine gets too hot.
At the end of a journey & the temp. is high, let the engine idle for a few minutes with the air con. on as this will give the engine coolant a chance to cool down & make the engine & bay cooler.You should see the temp. display fall fairly quickly.

Sounds about right same as mine but set at 112 hope this helps enjoy the holiday and stop worrying 8)

Mine seems to sit at 94-95 on the motorway doing a steady 65mph. Will be towing a caravan and sitting in heavy traffic to V Fest on Friday and will keep an eye on it...

My sensor on rear of head. Regular driving sits at 93-98. Towing, hills or loads then up to 103 at times. I have mine set a t 99 for regular use.

With the TM-2 sensor mounted close to the original Mazda sensor, within an inch or so of where hot coolant leaves the centre block on our V6, ours now motorway cruises at 79-81C, runs at 83-86C in town, and briefly gets up to about 92-95C max on steep hills when heavy. It's set at 100 for normal use.

Reason for adding this apparently irrelevant V6 stuff here is to say that you could previously add 2-3C to the motorway and town running temps above, and anything up 8-10C for hill climbs, before I added MotorMax coolant "enhancer" additive. It also took significantly longer to warm up from cold, and to fall back to "normal" temperatures after hill climbs.

In my engine, the additive does what it says on the can, and clearly does conduct heat through and away from the engine to the radiator fins, for them to convect it away into the air, much faster than before.

In particular, before installing it, and each time after stopping the engine (then switching the electrics back on to power the TM-2), there was always a continuing temperature rise at the TM-2 sensor while heat from engine hot spots first conducted across the block to the sensor, before the whole thing eventually began to cool down. That no longer happens (or it hasn't done every time I've checked), and the TM-2 readout now only goes one way, down, once I stop the engine - so, presumably, the MotorMax is clearing the hot spots far better, without letting them build up so much in the first place.

When you say 2nd bolt back....not sure which that is....I suggest you relocate the sensor to one of the 2 bolt holes on the rear of the cylinder head....you get to them from behind the front seats....remove the "flap" of carpet from the engine "hump" and you will see a large removeable cover plate.....undo and put to one side and the threaded holes are in front of you.....use a 10/12 mm long bolt.

Mine is in the position Haydn recommends, we have just got back from Devon - fully laden bongo (2 adults and 2 kids) with a fully loaded trailer. Maximum temp during the two weeks was 96 (up a big hill) and when driven with the load described 92. The bongo has new head, rad and all hoses with new coolant etc.

Thanks everyone just been up and over same mountain pass but without load and only got to 94 must be ok. Red wine time now!
