leaking sky light

Post by Geggsie » Sat Aug 21, 2010 10:38 am

I have a leak in the sky light and have tried using sealant unsuccessfully. I wonder if anyone knows of a garage in south wales area that is prepared to take it out and reseal. I tried auto glass who were to say the least unhelpful and dismissive. Any tips gratefully received

First thing I would do is try and locate a complete new seal....then armed with that it should be easy to find a fitter.

according to the service manual it is fitted in a particular way, personally I would show an auto screen/sunroof fitter the fitting process to see if they can help....

Hi Geggsie, you could try St. ilan car imports next to kwikfit in caerphilly, Steve's the man he knows bongo's inside out, he does my servicing on our V6.

Do you know there's a mini meet in Porthcawl on 5th september, av a look in the welsh section for more info. Be great to see yer there

Im in the Caerphilly area by the way :)

Did you use an automotive window sealant.
Sticky black stuff forced into all the joints around the window.
Does sky light=sun roof etc.

Hi
Are you talking about the fixed skylight in the AFT by any chance?
Cheers
Helen
In the beginning there was nothing , then God said "Let there be Light".....There was still nothing , but ,by crikey, you could see it better.

Thanks for all the good advice (what else would I expect from this forum!). For the time being I am trying the sealant again (Recommended by a window fitter ). Judging by the weather now (it is persistently raining again!!) it should be put to a thorough test. Failing that I may well try the guy in Caerphilly. I am in Bedwas so know where you mean. As for the other responses a few questions:

Where can I get a complete new seal
Do you have a copy of the manual which shows the fitting

Unfortunately I can't make Porthcawl on the 5th

The sealant used on caravans is Silkafix (i think) people reckon it's far superior than normal sealants~should get it from any local caravan supplies.

It's only easy when you know the answer!!!!!!!!!!
