Hi all

bit of advice needed

I have a couple of problems with the van

1) the dreaded wheel shake at 65mph onwards - having looked at alot of posts on here I think it may be the alloys the previous owner had put
on

2) Van has developed a sort of squeel, doesn't do it all the time, 1st started on cold start up just doing it the once. Went on a trip at the weekend and it started doing it more on acceleration.

SOoooooooooooooooooo question is do I need it looking at now or can I wait till I have my MOT in OCT?

The wheels need balancing most likely or you have a problem with a tyre.

Squeeling is likely to be a pulley drive belt, may need adjusting or replacing.

If it were me i'd get both sorted now rather than wait for peace of mind and trouble free motoring

sorry forgot to add I had the front balanced , made no diff

you could have the same problem as me number 1 exhaust stud on manifold may have sheared off

Check your tyre pressure, my wobble has improved a lot since. Max pressure on side of tyre was 44PSI, when I checked it was at 30PSI, so I put it to 40PSI. It still wobbles, but only very slightly. Im putting it down to cheap alloys. I also had wheels balanced and it helped but not by much.
Mine also makes a squeely noise (only very slightly) when cold, when I had it checked by Adrian in Bury he said its nothing to worry about. The squeal goes after the engoine has warmed up.

I would check to see if youre tyre has developed a problem. A big stone in the tread, big chunk of rubber missing, becomed warped on the rim? I would maybe jack up front coners one at at time and spin the wheels and watch the tyre rotate. Failing that run it into where you had the wheels balanced for a second opinion.

some times the alloys need a plastic spacer in the centre hub.(sorry cant remember the proper name)

cheers guys, the tyres say 50 psi on them but is that only when under a heavy load?

is the squeeling serious? or can it wait ? bit sick of having a problem everyweek since I've owned it

dave you mean sprigit rings for the alloys mate

could be worn anti roll bar bushes / tracking out wrong wheel nuts

No, I reckon 45 ok, still have you checked they are still at 45, with mine it was 15psi out, and adding some made some difference. Im use to having a car manual that tells me exact pressure of tyres, but with Bongo I dont have a manual and tyres are alloy addons. So its just down to experimenting with different things. Good job this forum is so accommodating with us newbies

if its the number 1 stud i would get it done asap

is it a high pitched squeel ? or does it sound like belts?

if its belts when you rev higher in neutral it should go off

Is squeal loud and when does it happen? Mine sounds like a belt turning, and clears up once engine was warm. Mechanic says its nothing to worry about. Also, I think with the number 1 stud dont you lose power and mpg
