I - Alert

Post by gasace » Fri Aug 27, 2010 9:15 pm

Following some overheating problems, I fitted a new thermostat and the bongo is now OK. I fitted an I - Alert but taped the probe to the top hose. The temperature has always seemed low. It has never gone over 84 even after parking on a hot day, it normally runs about 64. I have now moved the probe to a bolt at the back of the head, haven't had chance to take the bongo out yet. Can anyone help with what would be a "normal" temperature with the probe in the new position?

Thanks Gasace

If it's similar to a TM2 and fitted as per Haydn's advice, I get 88 to 96 deg. My bongo has had new head, rad, hoses and coolant about a year ago.

That would be about right for the back of the head....85/95C normal driving....100/105 towing
Set your alarm for 105 and you won;t go far wrong.

Wouldn't it make more sense moving your sensor around to find out why your getting low readings? Taping it to a hose is a waste of time if you then bolt it to the engine and relate readings. If you want to find out the max temp from the engine you need to read the temp at the head outlet.
