Rear wiper spindle

Post by helen&tony » Sat Aug 28, 2010 9:43 am

Hi
I was just looking at the mounting for the rear wiper motor...all intact!...but the spindle seems to wobble a bit...is this to accommodate the curvature of the rear screen?....I am just trying to get a new wiper arm, so I'm checking everything else while I'm about it!
Cheers

Hi Helen,

There does appear to be a fraction of give on the rear wiper spindle with the rubber surround on mine, but it don't seem to hinder performance of the wiper itself..

I did however tighten the tension on the spring in the wiper arm when i resprayed it, because i felt when the blade moved to the vertical position the pressure wasn't maintained, giving a full proper sweep of the aria.... That cured it for me! :D

I also used a slightly longer aero wiper blade too!

Hi Jay
Ta for that!....Sounds like my wiper...I think that may be why they have the flexy-boot round the spindle...I'm repainting all the wiper arms...found a VERY good rust-proofing paint here.
Cheers

I found the oxidation was more in the paint on my wipers Helen, when i took em back to the metal they weren't too bad..!

With regards to the spring tension in the wiper arm, you will notice a sort of funny bent hook retaining the spring at the end where the arm pivots out... If you close the angle a fraction on the hook, that seems to give the arm a little more tension!

Good luck putting the spring back in...

Hi
I've been eyeing that up!...might try bending that a bit with the vice...I'm tarting all the little bits after doing a full respray....it's a wee bit shiny    8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8)
Cheers
