only one type of 2.0 petrol

The JAL import guy is raving about 2.0l petrol engines
We rave about these 2.0l engines, the vast majority of people have never seen one, never mind driven one, when you have its unlikely you will buy a Diesel especially with the superg MPG they offer. We have road tested many Bongo 2.0l engines and every time they have outperfromed the Diesel in MPG terms.
are there modern ones or are they all the same? Mine is o.k but i cant compare it to the diesel as ive never driven one. it is nice and smooth at low speeds but underpowered as many have said before. Quite happy with it though but was wondering if this 1998 version was superceeded with a newer version?

All the same as far as I know......So they should all perform more or less the same depending on how much weight has been added converting etc and amount of kit on board.
The other thing that could affect them is if they are not running right.
I don't know of any that tow a caravan. That would be interesting info.
Having said that most peeps who have them think they do the job o.k.....
I belive they are called "Aero city" as they were intended to be used around cities where they were not expected to do much long distance cruising

Just a thought  but can these 2lt bongo's be re mapped to gain more power :?:
Garages seem to be advertising this kind of service to other vehicles to max out the power :!:

As far as I can see the 2.0 is the same on all of them we have had 98's and even a 2004 and they were all the same, old fashioned engine design external distributor single overhead cam.

Aero revers to the body kit. Some have the body kit and don't have Aero is script on the door some do. Manufacturers just use badging like that to push vehicles. Remember Rover having Catalyst emblazed on the back of thier cars in 1993 and cars having 5Speed on the back proudly....

Probably, most of the Mazda ECUs of that era can be reflashed using the diagnostic port or with a small wiring mod. You won't get much of an inprovement on a stock engine but usually it will be a bit more economical and a bit crisper on throttle response.
