Cracked rear lens

Post by Distilled Waters Run Deep » Fri Sep 03, 2010 6:14 pm

Clumsy... I opened a gate onto one of the rear lights & cracked the red reflector, & a piece fell inside -I reckon a bit of araldite wouldn't be amiss... I've removed 3 tiny screws from inside the cluster black body, & I can see some red tabs as well as clear ones. Before I get heavy-handed, has anyone opened one up before & could give me a tip or 2?

I'd go slowly with it... I wasn't aware the rear light clusters could be taken apart?

I'll find out, BDC!
Seeing as the tabs are likely to be clips, I've pushed a bit -but it's all been watertight for 13 years now... I'll try some gentle heat, maybe a bucket of hot water, to see if that softens the black plastic & any seal which may be on there. Will let you know how I get on...

Well I gave up on that -if I'd pushed any more I fear I'd've been looking at a shattered jigsaw beyond an hour with a lot of araldite -& I glued the piece back through the bulb-socket. Once it's hardened a bit, I'll add another layer & try to polish up the streaks. Not exactly concourse, but it shouldn't look too bad...

Doesn't look too bad.

p.s. You pasted too much in from flickr inbetween the IMG headers. You just need the bit after "img%20src"
img%20src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4106/495 ... "%20width="
..............^------------------------------------this bit---------------------------------^

Picasa does the same, I just paste it all in then delete the bits you don't need.

Thanks -maybe I'll finish fixing the gate before I finish that then, to make sure it doesn't happen again...

p.s. Dave, how did you do all that editing & tell me how to do it before I'd even finished looking at it?

I've tried again with the pic -I guess I'm the other binary...
