Pimped windscreen de-mister

Post by timorr » Tue Sep 07, 2010 9:26 pm

I seem to remember some time back coming across a picture (I think in this forum) of a device that someone had made to convert the front dash air vents into assistant windscreen de-mister vents. As far as I remember it was just some sort of a tube structure that ran up from the front vents over the front of the dash board. Anyone know what I am talking about, or did I just imagine it in a restless dream one night?

I spend alot of time in the winter months getting in and out of my Bongo in damp clothes...and have decided this year to try and turbo boost my de-mister.
If anyone knows any other devices on the market to help with this problem, I would be interested to hear?
Thanks

Hi, I think what you might be thinking of is a gadget which leads a hose out of the ventilation vents and which can cool a driver, or go to the rear seat to cool a child.

(It was sold in the USA by a company I used to work for).

In any case, all it would do is take the same air which was intended for the windscreen, but losing efficiency in doing so.

I have found the Bongo demister very powerful, if you are having problems then check the heater matrix is not clogged with gunk, that you do not have the recirculation control on, and that your air con is working.

You should not be having problems with misting if the system is working as it should.

First problem I ever had was NO DEMISTER - see http://www.igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/forum/ ... =3&t=26835.
Worth checking as it made a HUGE difference.

Hi Steve, thanks for that, but yep at this stage of my bongoing I am well aware of these issues and used to popping the link back into place.

There is some amount of air coming up through the windscreen vents but at the same time it also continues to come through the middle front vents, could there be some other (switch off the front vents) link disconnected?

I also have no air-con as the compressor is broken, could this be the reason I am not getting full strength on the de-mister?

It is the digital system I have and I usually just hit the auto front screen de-mister button - making sure that the re-circulate button is not on.

Any other thoughts? Anyone?

Thanks
Tim

Hi munroman, thanks for the info. What is the "heater matrix"? You got me on this one.
Thanks again

Could you get the part from the breaking bongo thread for your air con system and get it fitted and refilled at the same time, :D

Has lots of info.

If the aircon is not working that wont help, as the aicon dries the moisture from the wet air.

Even though you are pressing the right buttons, it might be that the inlet is stuck on recirculation, this happened to me and it needed the inlet flap cleaned and oiled.

Plus, being in Ireland, you need a good demister!

Slainte!
