Alarm and 99 V6 starter motor.

Post by A1tony » Fri Sep 10, 2010 6:13 pm

Hi all,
I should have had an alarm system fitted in my new bongo today but the fitters have had a nightmare. All was well up to the point they started the engine. When they tried to lock and re-arm it, the alarm would not work. After hours of trying to remedy it, they have said it's because the starter motor is bleeding 5 volts back on the positive feed for about 5-10 minutes after starting and thus the alarm thinks the car is still being used. The starter works fine and there are no battery issues. I have told them to make the cut on a different circuit now just to get the job done.
Any ideas ?? Thanks

I had a similar problem and it was down to a bit of feedback (resistor or something) from the coolant alarm on the ignition circuit once you turned the engine off. The alarm man fitted a relay and it has worked fine since.

I still have the coolant alarm to fit yet !!
It's either a toad or a waso thatcham cat 1 they are fitting. Both come from the same Chinese factory apparently.

I am pretty sure that the standard wiring has not been interfered with so it's still a mystery...

Thanks

Many thanks. I will see what they have to say when
I speak to them tomorrow. The fitters are 001 mobile near Walton-on-Thames. Not sure that they have done a Bongo before but it shouldn't really matter..

Dunno, if they had, I can't think of a cable that would hold 5volt current for 5-10 minutes after the Bongo is switched off...

Not your problem to sort, it's thiers, especially if you are paying them  I am naturally a suspicous person due to being tucked up before on a fair few occassions because i trusted peeps  but i find it sus how you get a prob when they fit an alarm, take it you had no prob before, , i fitted my own cat 1 and had a prob at the start because i connected triggers without using diodes made mine do a few funny tricks :D
Where did they take the starter wire from :?:

I must add that i don't know anything about fitting alarms or electrickery :D just what i picked up when i done mine  if it wasn't for the 2 gents that i took advice from on here :D i very possibly would have failed.

I looked at this thread and decided not to reply before your post..................................But you said what I was thinking.
Overcoming problems should be second nature to any business, you can teach a monkey to do most jobs today as most just need hitting a keyboard without thinking, rant over............But.............LOL I had to use a certain company to fit an immobiliser to my Pajero for insurance, it was returned with fascia surround parts in the glove box. The wife's car went there under guarantee to have a radio replaced (new fascia cover over it to) the heater outlets didn't work on return. They have a certificate that says they are qualified........................Nuff said. Just tell them, sort it or take it to some one who can and pay them what is left after it is sorted or they own you.

To be honest, I thinking will let them finish it for now and cut into another circuit instead. It's a bit like complaining in a restaurant after you have your starter, and before the main course arrives !!!

I will do some investigation after that and then see where this +5v feed is on the starter that they refer to. It is odd though, I just cannot see what would bleed that as a current after the engine has been switched on and off, then it the disappears after 10 minutes.

Unless anyone has had a similar problem or is a starter motor guru, I may not find out what the cause is.

I will have a look later on. Obviously it's a bit difficult until I ask them to show me where they tapped I to so I can see what colour wire it is and where it goes etc. Hopefully I will get it back this morning...

Hi Cheffy
The French complain in Restaurants fairly frequently...English have more savvy......they don't complain 'till later....there's always the chance that the Chef might pee in your sherry trifle
Cheers
