Team Muz Wales day-trip

A quick day-trip to Wales today and the first port of call was Ynys Gored Goch (Whitebait Island to me & thee ), the island in the Menai Strait with a couple of houses on it – at the moment there are pretty big tides (something to do with the full moon nearest the autumnal equinox) so it was worth looking at how high the water had got....




















Then off past Llanberis and over the Pass of Llanberis. Here’s the slate face of the Electric Mountain by Llyn Peris

Then off to Llyn Gwynant campsite in Gwynedd to see B*Witched Blingo & DebbiePritch – and also to see if it might suit as a location for next year’s Portmeirion expedition

Then over the Horseshoe Pass in Denbighshire....






....and then down the Old Horseshoe Pass towards World’s End in Denbighshire....







Good to see the Munkies on the A5 as well, no doubt headed for the Llyn Gwynant campsite as well

the site looks great paul,sort of a welsh silverdale.oh and thankyou for letting me see my mrs this weekend, .
will the site do the job for later,are they open early enough.

The site was nice & level with grassy fields but it was very wet, squelchy underfoot which, for the end of summer, makes you wonder what it would be like in the spring. A geezer in a VW who seems to go there a lot reckons it floods at times as there's a river running through the site into the lake. And if it floods, because it's flat, the whole place will be flooded.

I think he said it closes in winter but not sure if they do, when they reopen. EDIT: Brochure says March, no idea when in March.

A large part of the site was roped off to let the grass recover, where Chell & Debbie were camped was actually supposed to be the carpark for day visitors. Also one group were setting up tents on grass which was completely waterlogged.

Apparently we can have a field to ourselves, not sure what the electric situation is about the site. Also, watch the approach especially from the north on the A498, it's a really tight turn - not too bad entering the site but leaving is dodgy as you're having to use all the road and you're right by a blind corner. Probably best to go south and turn round. At Milford Haven

Also, don't go off your satnav, the postcode takes you to the wrong end of the lake

Don't know about a Welsh Silverdale, more like a small Shell Island I would say, a big site with a beach on the lakeside.





Black Rock Sands might be a better bet although they don't open until the end of March

It's an island but it's not normally that marooned. From hight tide to low tide is normally something like this....





....but I doubt they get flood insurance

The tide height varies not only on the position of the moon but also the earth's position relative to the sun and moon, making the highest tides in spring & autumn (hence the term spring tides) or, more accurately, from the BBC, "The largest spring tides occur in this country shortly after the New and Full Moon closest to the equinoxes, and are sometimes referred to as "Equinoctial Spring Tides". The spring (or vernal) equinox occurs around 21st March, and the autumnal equinox occurs around 23rd September."

No, we didn't stop on the bridge, tempting as it was, I'm far too law-abiding for that - we parked in the layby on the Bangor side of the A55 and walked back - imagine that, walking...

Flasher seen trying to take a picture of the Marchioness before he jumped off Brittania Bridge today, apparently the poor man didn't see the big sign that states no walkers, he has now been banned from Anglesey and his camera has been confiscated
