glow plug flashing

Post by coolcampers » Sun Sep 12, 2010 8:37 pm

Hi all
I know that a flashing glow plug light is supposed to have some kind of warning meaning. But how do I find out what it means. It is flashing on and off consistently for a second each. ihave had a leisure battery problem, if that might help diagnose my issue. I should add that the vehicle runs perfectly, with no effect on performance. Its a 95 2wd, diesel
many thanks in anticipation

Hi there

A flashing glow plug light gives an indication of a fault code.

There is a fact sheet on it in the members area listed under 'diagnostics' which should be able to help you identify which code it is. You then go to the website in the fact sheet to find out what the code means.

Having just had a quick look at the factsheet I think you need a voltmeter to get the code for a 95 model, but it's pretty well explained in the factsheet.

You should just be able to do it with a voltmeter (available cheaply if you haven't got one and useful for all sorts of stuff) hooked up as shown in the diagram.

I've never done this as mines a post 99 model and the glow plug just flashes the sequence, so unfortunately I can't be of anymore help.

I'm sure that someone with more experience than me (I'm still learning everyday) will be along soon to assist further.

hello dave,

i had a problem with my willington split charger relay kit (thankfully i had an excellent response and it was soon sorted)

but while i had the problem it was not charging my leisure battery.

i took my leisure battery off to re charge it on the mains and did not re configure my fuses - set up to run blinds internal light and radio from leisure battery - my glow plug light flashed all the time the LB was not connected.

maybe your problem is you have a flat LB ?

just a thought

I've got a 95 and the hold light has been flashing but I didn't need a voltmeter, the hold light itself flashes the sequence when you short the relevant contacts and turn the ignition on (I have linked to a movie of this in my thread on my own problem. I found this out thanks to someone who replied on my thread. Presumably it is a different pair of contacts for engine faults and the glow plug light flashes out the sequence, There is a film of this on you tube for a Ford Ranger with the same engine. I know the OP doesn't want to get involved in the electrics but this comment might help someone else. :)
