Drilling holes in Tin Top
I want to fix a bracket with self tappers to the roof of my Tin Top just behind the high level rear heater, there are two metal skins at this point but I dont want to drill into something I should`nt be drilling into or if there is something running here like wires, see picture, location arrowed.

I would, after checking for wiring coming up the channels on either side of the door frames and by the back heater vents.

Tin Top... with after market roof
Re: Drilling holes in Tin Top
yes, after very carefully prizing a section of the headlining down I saw a small allready inserted self tapping bolt, so decided to go for it, using the smallest drill I had with a depth limiter on I drilled the hole so that I did`nt go further than the thickness of the metal, then I poked a smaller metal wire into the hole to feel if there was any thing inside, it did`nt feel as if there was and it was about 50mm further up to the original roof. I have now screwed a little right angle bracket into the holes which is going to be for suspending part of the little cubby type overhead cupboard I am going to make,to house light items such as teabags/coffee, kitchen towels ect; I know top boxes for AFTs have been covered but an ex tintop is a different shape, ah well back to the workshop.

Ok been hard at it today
making my topbox, used a couple of left over 9mm thick flooring boards and a piece of 20x100mm timber for the back, removed the grab handle and used the anchor points to secure the back of the box , screwed the lefthand panel to the bracket I fitted yesterday, fitted the hinges and the stayput lid closure and assembled, job done, works well for me.
