Post by Ramsey » Sat Sep 25, 2010 4:41 pm

I have tried to dismantle it but its harder than it looks. I have the mirror off but cant workout how to get to the workings?
Any ideas re whats wrong and how to take it apart please?

SEcondly, I need a bit of touch up paint for my bongo, its blueysilver, anyone know how I can get this paint please?

Thanks as ever all,

Rams.

I remembered someone mentioning the mirror problem before and found THIS LINK which may help.
Is your Bongo a standard colour? If so, the paint code is on the chassis plate on the passenger door pillar (4Z etc) there's info about the colour codes ON THIS LINK.
Ian sells touch up paints ON THIS LINK.

thanks Doone,
The problem is with the folding not the actual mirror adjustment. It doesnt seem to be locking in place and when the Mrs drove it home from Plymouth it just kept blowing in. Thanks for the paint info, I will go and check.

THanks

Have you tried manually fully opening and then fully closing the folding mirror, there is a ratchet catch that will re-engage and then work normally. We get it happening quite frequently as the kids play footy in the road here and seem to like taking aim at our mirrors, despite being folded in :-(

Thanks.

Try operating the switch while opening and closing the door.
See if it starts whirring.
ie hold the switch down and move the door.

Hi All,

I have proved that the issue is with the mirror, I think it has been knocked at sometime whilst being repaired and wont reset. Ihave plugged the mirror into the passenger side and nothing happens, no motor sound, nothing. Theres must be a switch type limit that needs to engage before it responds? I doubt very much that the motor has gone as it wont stay in position even if put there manually.

Does anyone know how to take the glass mirror off without breaking it please? I clearly need to take this off before I can examine the workings?

Many Thanks,

Rams.

On a previous Freda we had, the drivers mirror decided to suddenly flop inwards. It happened suddenly, but it had been hit a few times before. I think Al ended up drilling it and fixing it permanantly in place with a screw.
Mike has given some advice about removing the mirror ON THIS LINK. And there are some photos that may help ON THIS LINK. And some advice about resetting the motor itself ON THIS LINK.

well found the problem, the little 12volt motor is burnt out, well coked up as I got it to work intermittently but now taken it apart and I think it will be impossible to put back together due to the tiny bushes. Im hoping that its just a standard tiny 12v motor that I can get from an electrical supplier.

Thanks all.
