Ignition fault?

Hi guys, on turning ignition key on in Bongo (diesel) it doesn,t start every time only happening last couple of days....turn ignition key and there is just a click from under drivers seat, I assume that is where the solonoid is, has anyone got any ideas? any help appreciated...regards Geoff aka Georgey...

Sounds like a solenoid problem.
Power must be getting to the starter as it is clicking.(assuming that is where the click is from)
First thing is to check all cables are tight.
Then check voltages with volt meter.
Then bench check the starter for proper operation.

Check the battery connections are good clean and tight as it only takes a slightly loose terminal to cause problems, if all is ok there then its a starter solenoid issue, good luck and keep us updated. :wink:

Think I,m gonna pop the starter off and check it and change the contacts...hopefully this will cure it....Fingers crossed....Thanks for the swift replies...

Before you get to deep, check the earth on the glow plug relay which is under the bonnet, top left corner under a plastic cover.

There are four connections (wires) on the bottom, two large, two small.

The two small ones, one is live when you switch on the ignition, the other is an earth. On this one, run a temp earth wire to the chassis and see if that works.

I do have some photos of all this, I have yet to put them on photo bucket.

My freda wouldn't start easily, no power to the glow plug rail. all sorted now.

All fixed....was the contacts in the starter motor they were well worn...easy fix got repair kit and instructions from http://www.repairkitsuk.com/4.html.....very good service and all for £13 delivered...Regards Geoff...
