What size switch?

Post by Mickymouse » Wed Sep 29, 2010 7:08 pm

Hi All

I have just bought a set of glow plugs and will be fitting them very soon.
In the fact sheet on glow plugs is an article by Ben Bruce about fitting a switch to turn the plugs on and off as required.
I am intending to fit a switch myself but cannot find the Import Solutions web site and was hoping someone might know where I can obtain a switch the right size to replace a Bongo blank switch, what is the size of the hole the switch goes in?
Also does anyone have any additional tips on replacing the glow plugs?

Many thanks in advance

I just fitted a small, hidden switch under the dashboard - it's almost an anti-theft device in cold weather, because it won't start very easily if you forget to turn it on

Or you can link an unpowered switch to the fan sensor that breaks that circuit (thus switching the fans on) This by default renders the glowplug relay circuit inactive till the fan switch is returned to on (or off, depending how you look at it) :D

Busy day today, have changed the glow plugs and fitted a switch for them! :D
To answer my own question the size of the oblong hole the switch fits in is 20mm x 30mm,I got a switch the right size and with a red LED from Halfords.
Now when it's switched on the LED glows when the glowplugs are on.
Changing the glow plugs was a fairly easy job,and I discovered that I did not need to touch the four gizmos as it states in the fact sheet,I found I had enough room without touching them.Used plasticine in the socket to hold the nuts for the two rear glow plugs when replacing the glow plug rail and a telescopic magnet was very useful as well for removing them.
Magic start up from cold now,no smoke,no smell =D>
Here are the latest photo's of Bertie, taken since I replaced the old tatty decals.

Cheers for now
