I've got my Bongo back :) BUT still not fixed:(

Post by gasace » Sun Oct 10, 2010 8:54 am

I picked up the bongo yesterday after the auto electrician has had it all week, he has not been able to identify the intermittent power drain that flattened the battery. He thought it may be caused by a feedback holding in a relay, and has fitted an isolator on the negative side of the battery. This allows me to drive the bongo without sorting out the fault, it is going back next week for more checks. However I found after a run when I switched off the ignition the heater kept going. I disconnected the battery and left it off for 30 seconds, when I reconnected the power the heater was still going, so I now think it is a sticking relay, the one which controls the heater. Does anyone know where this relay is on a 97 2.5 diesel please? Thanks John

Are you sure its not just a faulty ignition switch?

Sometimes the simplest explanations are the most likely!

Not clear if you have the manual or electronic system fitted. I assume you mean the Fan for the heater keeps going as the heat comes from the engine itself anyway for the Manual heater controls the relay is G1-03;
which is located

for the electronic system its G3-07
located is here

Ha just realised there the same position but labelled differently to confuse ;-)
these are the main relays that control the Fan being on/off but not the speed of the fan itself.

If the Fan light stays on, then as above, suspect that the Ignition switch is either faulty or bypassed.

Thanks, =D> I will check the ignition switch as well as the relay, I had not thought about the switch, but it could be either.
