engine wont start

Hi,
My car has just been convert to lpg, (Tues,) Took it for an mot on Thursday but after the test the engine would'nt start! 2 litre petrol no smell of petrol when the engine cranks over anyone any ideas? before the conversion it was allways a first time starter. Cheers for any help.

"Friend" shoved a potato up your exhaust?

This may sound like a facetious reply but I once backed my petrol VW into a rotten log in a woodland carpark and it wouldn't start. Not a problem for Turbo Diesels.

However, assuming you haven't upset anyone, another first thing to look for is loose or split vacuum hoses. Time was when cars only had the one on the distibutor. Nowadays there are many more, some of which are critical to starting.

Sounds suspiciously like it could be linked to the conversion that's just been done (I don't know how LPG conversions work but are there switchover solenoids, valves etc. and could one not be doing it's job?). Do the installers not give some kind of warranty on their work/parts?

I had an LPG conversion done to my VW by a respected installer.

I was getting problems with it and eventually tried checking the wiring.

I found that the connections had been twisted together, without solder.

I suspect the guy got interrupted and forgot to do it, but the LPG system has so many connections they all have to be good.

Hi,
turned out to be a faulty lt plug on the side of the distributor mended with a cable tidy

only temp till I can find a new plug. Nothing to do with the lpg thats working fine

the plot thickens, turned out to be one of the wires has broken near to the plug! Anyone know how to remove one of the pins without breaking anything? I can then do a repair job that should be OK.

I would suspect that they broke it when they were trying to find a negative RPM pulse for the LPG system.

Hi Paul,
strongly suspect it was'nt them the broken wires which are visible when you hold the wire straight are more than 4 weeks dirty, maybe moviving the wires was the last straw though? The break in the wire is just outside the plug so I'm hoping to solder a short patch of wire in and cover with heat shrink unless someones got a better idea!
