Hello,
We've had our diesel auto freetop 4WD for a bout a month and loving it.
Went beautifully on our first trip to north Wales; my wife Lynn and I had a great time- what a fantastic bit of Kit the Bongo is,we are certain that we made the right choice now in going for the Mazda not a classic veedub.
Inevitably a few niggles with a new motor, and I found my first today when underneath fitting EGR blanking plates (from Allans Vehicle Services which went on fine with good clear instructions.)
I also changed the oil and all 3 filters to be on the safe side.
BUT- I noticed a metal hose, (which leads into a rubber section, then into the side of the autobox) had a load of corrosion on it and was weeping. I cleaned off the muck to reveal a splendid pin hole which is now pissing oil ?? on to my drive- it seems pressurised when engine is running.
Can anyone tell me what this is, and can I get replacement or do I need to repair it?

Steve, that is the one of the rubber hoses and pipes that lead from the transmission oil cooler.......there are 2 of them......the oil cooler is built in the bottom of the radiator.......

Thanks for that Rita- I had a go at that this morning.
It complicates things a bit that it's the end of the steel pipe near to the 'olive' type end detail- (presumably to fit tight into rubber piping,) which has corroded through. Anyway I cut off as little as possible and re fitted the rubber tube and clamp. Its not leaking, but I guess this isn't a good long term fix? The rubber hose seems to vibrate more than the undisturbed one next to it 'cos it's been shortened I guess.
What do you reckon?

Hi, as I understand it,you have cut the bell end off the pipe,if you feel it is too short cut the pipe at a suitable point and extend it with a piece of suitable hose and clips.Remember and check the fluid level in the box.

If you're not happy with the repair long term, then you can order a new pipe from your Mazda main dealer. They sometimes have them in stock, or sometimes they take a couple of weeks to come in.
