Very quick question!!

Post by Oldboybob » Mon Oct 25, 2010 5:44 am

I have a full side conversion on my bongo running standard tyres (205 rear 195 front) and will be carrying five people including myself and towing a small trailer. What should my tyre pressures be? I currently have 40psi front 42psi rear is this too much or ok? hopefully one of you kind people will respond before I leave on my trip today. Thanks!! :D

A lot depends on the tyres. If it handles well and the tyres wear evenly, you have it about right 8) If the tread is lower in the centre of the tyre, they are over-inflated - if lower on the outsides of the tread, they are under-inflated.

I've done this load often and used 40psi all round, or I reckon you could have 38psi at the front. Thats on 215/55/17 Pirelli P7's

Just returned from our trip to Wales, ran it at 40psi all round ( 5 people and towing a fully loaded trailer) and handled much better and got far better fuel economy than my last trip of roughly the same distance ( 2 people and NO trailer ). Thanks all for the advice. :D

Excellent. As advised, keep an eye on the tread to make sure it isn't wearing faster in the middle (indicating tyres over inflated) but I think you should be OK. Main downside is a harsher ride but since the Bongo is harsh on bad roads anyway and smooth on good ones, its not a big issue overall.
