Not quite Hants but A34 just South of Newbury ar e Discount Trucks - very good rep on here and despite the name they specialise in importing and preparing and maintaining Bongos
.. I'm booked in for waxoil and cambelt and some other things whenever I get the blasted thing from the import company ( seriously unhappy with them by the way!!) Very fair quotes from Discount Trucks too !

What's a scouser doing in Hampshire? Put those wheels back!
Only joking... Keep the wheels.
Bad luck with the cylinder head though... IF (and that's a big if) the head has gone, the entire engine won't need replacing... Just the head and gasket (likely) In some cases, the gasket may just have gone, in which case, it's a new gasket, pressure test of the head, skim the block, and you're back on the road!
Check out the bongo shop for a new head, but please do get DEFINITE conformation that the "heads gone" before you commit to buying anything just yet... Best of luck.

Make sure you use a genuine Mazda gasket, as there have been problems with pattern ones. Get the block surface flattened before fitting the head and make sure you use new head bolts - Discount Trucks would be well aware of this

I had a replacement engine fitted by a place in Daggenham. The price they quoted they stuck to. Got their details off ebay. Sorry cannot recall the name.

Expext to pay £1500 to £1800 for a recon head and gasket set supplied and fitted and if it is the head gasket thats the issue insist on them using a official mazda gasket kit.
You don't say what colour the smoke was, white points to head issues black would be turbo / fuel issues.

Re: Help, Bongo world do i need a new engine
I've had a new head fitted twice now.
Fully built up head, gaskets, bolts, cambelt & tensioner (with parts from Bongobits), labour, ancillaries, vat - blah blah blah, has been around £1500 each time. Good opportunity to get the EGR blanked off at the same time.
Less than half of that if its just the gasket.
Its imperitive that the work is done by someone familiar with Bongos though. This ain't no regular motor.

Nearer than Discount Trucks are Furze Motors in Burgess Road Southampton. I have never used them but they are recommended by several local Bongo owners. Paul does all Mazda's but is Bongo friendly.
