Help please! Can't get suspension spring off!

Post by se3454 » Sat Oct 16, 2010 6:57 pm

Hi, got my new lowering springs, fit three done and fitted but NSF is giving me a headache! Everytime I try to undo the top nut the actual shock shaft is spinning, the bit that goes up and down I mean, not sure if it's actually the shaft or not! Does anyone have any idea of how I can get it off? Stuck with a wonky bongo at the moment! Many thanks

I think there is usually a pair of "flats" on the shaft somewhere near the top where you can hold it with a open ended spanner.

Worst case scenario is that you pad the jaws of some molegrips with some rubber sheet and grip the very top of the shaft to see if that will stop it turning..

Turns out after tryin to get the top nut off with an airgun that whoever put it on had really cross threaded it! So in coming off took half the thread with it which was handy, so another shock had to be purchased and now all fitted and back together. Nothings ever as simple as it should be!
