V6 Petrol Fuel Pump

Hi again, another question

Looking at fitting a petrol eberspacher, found a good place to install however before I start I was wondering about fuel supply.

As mine is a fuel injected petrol, don't these normally have a high pressure fuel pump that fires up with the ignition and pressurises the fuel supply pipes?

My guess it is high pressure as there is an electric fuel pump and a fuel pressure regulator.

If so, I guess I cannot simply T into an existing fuel hose and run to the fuel pump on the heater?

Hi Rita,

Yes it does have it's own pump, this is designed to draw fuel from a petrol tank, not have it forced to it already, hence my question.

If the fuel pipes already there are under pressure, then it's no good to tap into as the eberspacher pump won't like that.

That being the case I need to purchase a fuel supply kit and insert it (if it's possible) into the top of the tank and then let the eberspacher fuel pump draw it off as needed.

What I thought was a fairly simple job could be getting more complex !! Best to do it properly though, don't fancy petrol spraying around, yes in a way it would heat the car up but not in the way I intended

Yes the petrol pump is immersed in the petrol tank itself. No idea what pressure the fuel in the lines is at however.

The pump is 13-350 at the bottom of the tank.

There'll be a variety of pressures/vacuums in the tank as they aren't allowed to vent to atmosphere. There'll also be a pressurised fuel return to the tank from the injection system. On top of that, the tank will vent into an EVAP canister which draws the petrol fumes into the engine at regular intervals.

Might be best to fit a 5l plastic fuel tank under the bonnet - plenty space between the wheels in a 2WD and have a separate fuel feed

Good idea about the 2nd tank, thinking about it I could bought a derv heater instead and used red diesel !! Oh well, I got mine brand new for a great price so I'll look into getting another tank, want it to be safe rather than a petrol can rigged up with cable ties !!! Also want to avoid petrol fumes, don't like that smell.

Hi Andy,

I would think fitting an internal suction to the tank flange,and suction pipe and fittings to the heater would be the safest and most cost efficient way to do it.
