Split Charger

Post by Bully bongo » Sun Nov 07, 2010 1:25 pm

I have a willinton split charger fitted for my lesuire battery. Also have 240 hook up,charger unit in the back to work my 12volt electrics.I put multi tester onto my l/b to see what voltage i was getting from the power unit to the batteery it was fine at 14.6v.I put a test onto my starter battery and i was getting the same.Is this normal to get the charger supplying the starter battery through your split charger.Every thing is working great.Just wondered if there was something wrong.Any advice, thanks again fellow bongo people. :?

Not sure about willinton but my split charger will allow charging of starter battery from LB circuit if that is at a higher voltage. This allows my solar panel to keep both LB and starter battery charged. :) i.e. dual split charge relay.

BUT it depends how your 240v charger is connected to the rest of the system. Clearly if it is connected directly to the Starter battery in some way it will charge it along with the LB. Different convertors use different set ups and it can get confusing!!

If everthing is working OK I wouldn't worry about it too much.

The majority of VSR are dual sense, but he has used different relays overtime I notice. The one I saw when I first came on the board several years ago now was a single sense one as I recall as it was quite a bit more expensive than most but its not the one he is showing on his adverts at present.

In that case yes he has gone to using the dual sense ones, there simpler and cheaper!
I can't make out from his current advert which make of relay he is using its numbered BD100/120-VSR but the makers name isn't visible.
