What's the bleeding difference?

Hi,
I was just wondering how the Bongo method differs compared to a "normal"
car.
I've watched the 3 part coolant bleeding video on you tube and read the
fact sheet.
Is it just the extra pipework that creates more opportunity for trapped air?

My local garage has always serviced/fixed mine satisfactorily so far, they just
haven't done coolant change before. Obviously I will supply as much info from here
as I can. They're fitting new rad and thermostat.

If a non-Bongo experienced garage tried to do it, with no fact sheet or anything,
what might they miss/get wrong? ( hypothetically ).

A non Bongo garage would probably not know there was a Bleed Hose under the passenger seat....this would almost certainly leave air trapped in the cylinder head and result in overheating and a wrecked cylinder head.

Also they probably wouldnt know how important it is to get the stat to open (takes about 30/40 mins)

Personally I would not let a garage that had never done the job learn on my Bongo.....

Ideally I wanted to take it down to Allan's in Plymouth but can't get there.
I like to think I know quite alot about the Bongo ( I'm one of those who will spend ages
studying the Lushprojects schematics ) to know what's wrong but I wouldn't be confident or
have the time/facilities to fix anything.

I'll trust them to do it tomorrow but will monitor the Bongo when I get it back.
Like a surgeon who can't do their own operation

Print off the "bleeding instructions" and get them to follow them to the letter.

agree with all haydn has said above.
im also of the opinion that a copy stat is not up to the job.has to be a gen mazda one for me.on a friends motor just this weekend i removed a stat that was only months old,the engine had been rebuilt,but still showing hot.the stat fitted by the builder was a copy part and had the jiggle pin missing.

The garage who I've been using for many years for other cars, and who did the first service on the Bongo refused to change the coolant for me when I showed them the instructions saying it was too much trouble and faff I'd rather they did that than take the instructions and then go their own sweet way. They still service my husbands cars and MOT the Bongo, but I take it to Allan all the time now anyway. Because he's the BEST

I bought Mazda rad and thermostat ( from Fury shop ) coz didn't want cheap copy parts.
You usually get what you pay for when you buy cheap.
Mind you the genuine one ( thermo ) was only £5(?) more. Silly not to.

what made you decide to get a new rad and stat.......overheating problems or preventitive maintainance ???

Noticed a small leak at top of rad.
See " what else do I need? " on pg2 of techie stuff.
