Digital Aircon

Post by Matt185 » Mon Nov 15, 2010 3:55 pm

Hi

My aircon/heater only seems to churn out proper heat when you crank it all the way up to 32. Even at 31 - the temp drops right off. Any ideas please?

Cheers

I might have one! Though mines a manual, the principle is the same'ish... Though yours is servo controlled, in the passenger footwell just under the centre of the dash, should be the adjuster for the flap controlling the heat (hot cold air mix.) from the front heater matrix.. Looks like a white Doctor Who prop!?

Check the connections & adjustment? (If any!?)

If its not the servo rods as above then try the Factsheet, possibly the transistor has blown which can be replaced

Also get the glovebox out, and get yer arm in the back behind the control unit (you'll need the radio out too) - The connectors can wiggle loose and cause this sort of thing.

I have exactly the same problem - it's either as hot as the sun or cold as the arctic at 32 and 31.5.

I'll keep a keen eye on this thread =D>

Does'nt seem to be the rods. Fixed those once before when no air came through to the windscreen vents. This is a weird heat thing. Removing glove box etc maybe a step too far for my rubbish skills! Will see if any other theories appear then take the plunge. Thnx all.

It could be the temperature sensor (next to the glovebox). The 18° and 32° settings are not actually set temperatures, they are min and max respectively. At these settings, the system will blow max heat or max cold forever. If the system can't determine the temperature, I'm not 100% sure what it will do on an in-between setting. Possibly not much.

To remove the glovebox, simply open it, and then look at the top of the hinged unit - at the rear left & right. There are 2 'pegs' moulded into the unit which stick out and stop it opening too far - simply force these past the hole in the dashboard. Once the unit is hanging down, it just pulls out.

Hi,

I got my Bongo last February - I distinctly remember it having exactly that problem - all or nothing with the temp on the digital climate control. However in May, I had the dashboard in peices to replace the front heater matrix. Now I'm using the heater again after the summer the problem seems to have gone away - it could well have been something or sensor somewhere which I unplugged and inadvertantly got a good connection again when putting it all back together - I didnt have the control panel out, but I did have the glovebox out and I was doing a lot of rummaging around in there..

BTW the control rods on my heater have broken (driver side) so I've manually set it to blow on the feet and the windscreen setting - I guess the temperature control flap (other side of footwell) must be working as that controls the temperature. Best thing is to get down in the footwell and see if the actuator works when the temperature is changed? One of the things I did unplug when replacing the matrix was that actuator - it gets pretty grimey down there so you could taking the plug off, cleaning it, reattaching and see if anything changes?

cheers,

Steve

I have the same thing, you'll also notice that the temperature control works fine, ie you get medium heat at 25, hot at 30+ until the engine is up to full operating temperature..
Mine has always been like this..
