What kind of wear and tear dolphtec?
If the centre is wearing out then the tyres are inflated too high - the converse if the sides are wearing faster than the centre.
If they are wearing on one side only then the wheel alignment is out causing scrub
If they are "castling", i.e. there are pronounced edges at the front of the tread blocks then a little is to be expected with 4WD but excessive castling is usually a 4WD viscous coupling on its last legs

I've got two tyres with 6mm tread & will be buying two (Good) new tyres this week, so I'm trying to find out whether the new one's should go on the front or back to keep the tread depths as even as possible?
Thanks
Chris.

Driven 4wd vehicles for years - car-like ones like Audi Quattro and Subarus tend to wear tyres more evenly than a fwd car (which wears fronts first) or rwd (which wears backs first).
Only done 3k miles in my 4wd Bongo since getting it with new tyres fitted, so no discenable wear yet on the 215/65R15 100H Yokohama C-Drives.
