Relay clicking

Evening all,
got home from work,turned off lights,stop engine & take out key, i can hear a relay clicking about once a second,sounds as if its around the steering wheel, never heard this before, just wondering if anyone knows whats causing this, must have been clicking for around 4-5 mins

Possibly residue of a defunct Turbo Timer that has suddenly burst into life . . .

Do you know if it ever had one?

not aware of one fitted or otherwise, haven't found any remains in/on the dash, no odd holes anywhere or unexplained wires hanging

Alarm maybe set up for some sort of passive arming but cant quite pull it off...??

Could it be the metal work cooling down making a clicking noise,

Have been having the same problem over the past couple of weeks, quite a loud intermitent clicking from somewhere behind speedo area, deffo a relay playing up, after much investigating traced it to the willinton split charge kit, thinking it could be affected by recent damp weather. Just drove 100 miles today & no further problem, so fingers crossed.

found the clicking, it's the willington relay,bongo has been idle this week,found the LB down to 9.4v, so started engine, main batt getting 14.35v LB getting 13.8v,occaisionally this relay is clicking but cant find why! anyone got any ideas?

Simple its a Voltage Sensitive Relay (VSR), when the relay senses that the S/B is above about 13.8v-14.0v it switches in to allow the L/B to charge, at which point the voltage falls and the relay drops out as the voltage falls. Normally there is an adjustment on some relays to set this up correctly. You really only want the relay to pull in once the alternator is running and the S/B is pass the initial charge stage which will be somewhere in the range quoted above, its possible that the relay is operating at a much lower voltage and hence all the clicking, if you have a voltmeter available measure the S/B voltage whilst it is clicking and see at which point it clicks in and out then if the relay has an adjustment try adjusting it, otherwise get back to Willinton as he normally gives a good aftercare service as well.
