Remote Central locking issues

Post by Teezee1 » Sun Nov 21, 2010 10:15 pm

Hi, I have remote central locking which only seems to unlock the drivers door in warm weather and all doors when frosty? Very strange. The other problem I have is that when used it only gives about a minute before it automatically locks the car and sets the alarm off, if I have not opened the drivers door by this time. I have 3 children aged between 20months and 7 and 1 minute does not get them all in and secured. Any ideas what the problems are? I know I could always walk around and open the driver door but it's not always practical to do so with young ones.

I would try looking at the loom between the drivers door & the body.. Sounds like a possible breakage or fraying of the CL wires in that location causing the weather related problem??

Who installed the alarm? Sounds to me like the door trigger sensors were not fitted to activate on all the doors, if you got a case of unlocking & say, open any other door (including the boot) but the drivers first??

Some alarms do have an auto relocking feature if any one the doors are not opened in a certain time of disarming....

I installed mine & it has that feature, including a button-less proximity disarming/opening option... (Handy when loading gear.) But, the alarm has never gone off if it rearms & locks back down due to not opening the door in time!

Now, If the alarm is tied into all the doors & you got a dirty negative contact that normally works the courtesy light for the door. (which is where my door alarm triggers are.) Then the alarm may think the door isn't open & lock back down, the internal sensors would figure out a "break in" & trigger, even if when armed/locked & contact depreciates! #-o

The tailgate courtesy contact design is a little unreliable in this respect, i cleaned mine right out.. It happened to be full of what looked like Japanese scraps of news paper caught in the tailgate latch! The the courtesy light don't come on or is intermittent, then chances are that maybe the source of the lock-down problem..?

Good solder contacts need to be made to these wires too, (scotch lock connectors are not an option) cuz if the trigger wire looses connection, it defeats the object making the alarm unreliable.

I read on an American alarm site that a cheap alarm installed properly is is more reliable than a leading brand bodge installed !
