amazing starting

Post by dreamwarrioruk » Sun Dec 05, 2010 12:58 pm

After having some probs starting the problem since the cold weather started eventually got round to rectifying the problem.
I had guessed it was the simple glowplugs at fault. stripped out, 11.97v at the bar, ok so not relay, 11.96 at each plug ok.
glow tested each of the blueprint plugs in there and not one of them was working, i was amazed that the bongo would still start without any glowplugs working, after all just one down is enough to cause probs.
Anyway new ngk plugs in, fires up even before glowplug light goes off.
job sorted and simple as well, all apart from dropping one of the nuts onto the exhaust manifold behind the egr valve solonoid and big fingers are a struggle to get in there.

happy again

Well done. It's good when it starts instantly, especially below freezing. 8)

Yep -exactly same experience with mine - old plugs checked out fine voltage and resistance wise but just were not working properly.. 30secs cranking would usually get her going. 4 new NGKS and she starts up brilliantly.

..Also the easiest set of glow plugs I've ever done - no triple jointed fingers required behind the injection pump for this one (Audi). Well chuffed - Bongo's do seem to be very DIY-able (I say that now...).

I've shown this pic before but worth showing it again - this is what can happen to cheapo glowplugs - the centre drops out! and rattles about inside the pre combustion chamber! You can't go wrong with NGK.
