Frozen Diesel?

Post by highrover » Fri Dec 24, 2010 4:51 pm

I've just fired up the Bongop after a couple of weeks idle and decided to get diesel and screenwash etc for the trip to Edinburgh.

I thought i had about half a tank of diesel, but the fuerl gauge was bordering on "Fume" territory.

So, I tried to fill up but it only took about 12 litres.

Could my tank be frozen? We've had some pretty cold days here in Aberdeen

If so, how do I get everything flowing again?? HELP!!

Thanks
Iain

Thanks M-M-M-M-Max (am I showing my age??)

Whew! That seems a bit drastic. I'm hoping the fuel has frozen somewhere and would like to investigate that before doing to full dismantle! (I need to get going in about an hour and would hate to be stuck in the middle of nowhere with no fuel getting to the engine

Im pretty sure if your diesel was frozen it would not run as the pipes being thinner would freeze first

that could be nonsense of course but the sender unit not earthing so showing empty when full is a common problem so i would check that first

OK, I see what you are saying. Thanks Max and Warrior

I'm going to assume that the visual down the filler pipe is telling me that she's full, I'm going to take to the road.

I may be gone some time!

Thanks again guys

Merry Christmas to you all and a Bongotastic New Year!

Factsheet on the sender earth issue here - http://www.igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/member ... sender.pdf - you can also do it by fitting a new earth from the front drivers side of the tank (where there's already a hole in the seam) to the chassis, having scraped back to bare metal first.
You can't polish a turd - but you can roll it in glitter.
