Rocker cover gasket issue V6

Post by fargo » Fri Dec 31, 2010 2:09 pm

Hello and I hope everyone had a happy Christmas and is going to have a happy new year.

I have had fun with the Bongo over Christmas, with one of the spark plug wells on the passenger side filling up with oil and stopping the plug from working, after a panic and a clear out of the plug all are firing again, but it is still weeping oil.

I managed to get new gasket covers for both sides of the engine (for £30 from Lee at Jap Auto Spares - great service!) and it has been to a garage for a quick check, the mechanic said that he found some of the bolts were loose and they have 10p sized rubber bungs at the end of the bolts that he could not get out, because he was pressed for time, he tightened them up and told me to see how we go (we have a 150 mile journey tomorrow, so lots of checking on the way).

Does anyone know about these rubber bungs/washers or whatever they are? I am going to book the bongo into the garage for a change of both rocker cover gaskets when I get home.

Thanks everyone!!

You can't polish a turd - but you can roll it in glitter.

I had the tappets of my 2.5TD done in Edinburgh last month. The cylinder head gasket came complete with the Bolt washer you require, Not sure if they sell these bolt washers separately but they probably do.

Jap Auto Solutions also do gaskets for V6's but I don't see any bolt washers so you will have to ask.

Thanks everyone, owning a bongo is certainly financially exciting!

Mind you the wife used to have an old VW camper and she says it spent more time in the garage than on the road!

Happy new year!

Sorry don't know have'nt been there yet :) but if it helps my driver side front plug has taken oil for the last three years, don't bother me, quick clean up every so often :!: really hasn't bothered me :!: :!: , bit of bog roll rolled up stuck down there once in a while and hey presto, I doubt it will fill in 150 mile anyway [-o< it has probably been goin on for a while anyway, i nipped mine down tighter and it slowed it down considerably  offcourse there is the other option for the plug filling with oil but i would hope not [-o< , i've said i will do mine but i never do   when it gets bad enough i will, but i am a tight git i would prob try some instant gasket first but i fear this may not be an option on mine as it would appear that someone has glued it before  .
