RE: Replacing a sliding door window

Hello there,

Do I need any seals or rubbers (or silicone?) when fixing in a new sliding door window? I still have the screws and attachments/lugs - just wondered if i needed to seal them and the glass? Sorry if that sounds like a dopey question - thanks - any help appreciated.

Going from memory i think the attachments have small rubber washers/ O rings that seal them. The window of course seals against the rubber weatherseal attached within your sliding door when the window is closed

Cool thanks, I'll have a closer look for those little rubber bits in the am. I figured it would push against the rubber seal around the whole window - I looked at the opposite side. Cheers for the heads up.

From memory when i removed/repainted the heads on my bolts, its a metal screw that goes into an alloy bolt head button designed not to be over tightened as to crack the glass with the rubber washers either side.. (In other words, bolt part 70-361A in the link has a "stem" the thickness of the glass.)
Due to the nature of the materials involved, make sure you don't cross-thread or force over tighten, you may strip the thread in the stem rendering the bolt useless...!?

Jamie... I never even popped the caps off when i painted them! Luckily i have a steady hand, (i did that day at least)

Steve, the way i did it was to remove one off each window at a time & do em in groups of four...
I started with the top bolt at the hinge on every window then the second batch from the bottom.. When replacing the bolts from the second batch of four, i used them to replace the bolts on the window latch clip thus keeping the windows securely in place at any one time...

I striped the bolt down for painting by fixing in a drill chuck on a slow speed & running over some wet & dry, doing my wiper arms at the same time. The old paint came off remarkably easy
