K-Seal radiator temp fix, friend or foe?

Post by lrsfawcett » Mon Jan 10, 2011 12:26 pm

Hi, I've already posted about my leaky radiator (and had some really helpful posts) and it's clearly best for me to replace the radiator, however, I am thinking of using K-Seal (like Radweld) to create a temporary seal on my (slightly) leaky radiator until next month when I can buy a new one. Has anyone else used it or do they know if using it could end up damaging engine components/coolant system somehow?

Thanks

If you're going to get a new rad next month, why waste £30 on KSeal :? - it's a fair bit towards the cost of the rad and may not work anyway :?

It's been discussed before so have a search. Personally. I'd be very wary of using stuff like that in case it clogs the system up at all, but wait and see what the techies have to say 8)

At the end of the day you need to get a new rad. so are probably better biting the bullet and getting on with it.

Hi, have searched threads again and read about Kseal (sorry, I did search before I posted but I had the hyphen in so no posts found!). Going with the safe option and ordering a new radiator as the old one already has a lot of corrosion.

Thanks all

Personally I would justgo with a new rad as been there myself ....radiator has top and bottom plastic tanks and almost always that is the weakest spot on the rad......BUT get a good 'un not a cheapo one........ do a search but JAS/Mazdabongoshop have O.E at good prices

Kseal........can't speak of "is it okay"myself but I do know of owners(not just bongo's) that have it in their system as an extra bit of insurance.........
Franco's point about cost is vaild although it's £9.99 a bottle here, enough to do a Bongo......as for Mike's clog the system comment/point of view....Having seen a vehicle that has it fitted as a precaution....nope it didn't block that up....
I guess that if I was going to use Kseal then it would be as a precaution/extra leak insurance/service item and as long as I knew the cooling system flow was up to spec.....
I know of traders that use it on some vehicles that are known to be prone with heads/gaskets issues like the Fiat Punto......

Just realised my price referred to SteelSeal  - the one without any "bits" in it  I believe that's the one that some, but not all, people have had success with.

Eggs don't work. As half a dozen in my Mini years ago will testify.

Still, at the time it was worth a shot, and really just a 'theory' tester.
