Glow plugs ?

Post by M 80NGO » Sat Jan 15, 2011 8:24 pm

I'm gonna change my glow plugs they're working ( well getting 12 volts ) but i'm suffering the smokey lumpy start ups even now the weather's warmed up but after looking on E-Bay there seems to be a vast range of prices for what looks like the same thing. What plugs do i need for my 1995 2.5 diesel 4x4 ?

Thanx :)

You need NGK Y701J

Search eBay I got a set of 4 delivered for £32

Words of advice if you are doing the job yourself:

You need to remove the centre console bridge where the gear lever and handbrake attatches, after that there are a group of solonoid relays with pipes on, unbolt these from their mounting plate to facilitate access. Following my debarcle with a sheared off glowplug head I would definitely recommend a good period of time soaked in wd40 to help loosen up the threads, at least overnight. Also ensure you have the engine nice and hot before you attempt to remove the old plugs, all these things I never did and hence I now have a 3 plug Bongo  However I reckon before I did the job she was on 2 plugs at the most and starts perfecly fine on 3 plugs, I simply set the revs to around 1500rpm for about 15 seconds and the lumpyness is gone after this.

Hope this helps.

take special care of the solenoid/pipes as these are very brittle, the ends of the solenoids crack off.

You don't even need to go on e.bay, you can get genuine NGK glow plugs from Mr solutions for £32.88 post free. www.mister-solutions.co.uk. I got four plugs from them recently for back ups, this was the source recommended by You've Been Bongod in a post not long ago. Y701J is the right size for a 1995 Bongo.
